My name is Reeyana Sehgeh, I am a visual storyteller and Independent filmmaker from Kansas City, Missouri. I have created and worked on independent films in Africa, Europe, and in the United States. I began my filmmaking journey in 2010 at Clark Atlanta University, where I studied directing and documentary filmmaking as a Mass Media Arts major. It was in undergraduate that I created my first documentary, “Power of the Black Woman in Film: Understanding the disproportionate rate of Black Women in Hollywood”.
With a crew compiled of black women, I sought answers to the lack of black representation in mainstream Hollywood and all sectors of media ranging from advertising to motion picture. Using film and visual storytelling for self-expression, healing, formidability, black and brown empowerment, and women equality; I began a journey to create films, design narratives, and provide opportunities that are inclusive of black and brown people and those who are misrepresented in media. I currently reside in Atlanta, Ga, and serve as a filmmaker and assistant director for The House of June and as an editor, ad, photographer, gaffer, and grip at the largest independent music video studio in Atlanta, The Atl House of Shoots. Through visual storytelling, I am working to create and diversify the narrative of both black and brown women and men in the advertising and entertainment industry.
